Harrison County Students and Families,
Due to the recent weather and adjusted operating schedules over the past few days, we wanted to take a moment to inform you that Harrison County Schools will be operating on regular schedule tomorrow, Wednesday February 9. Thanks to some extra work by the Harrison County Road Department and Harrison County Schools Maintenance, all regular bus routes are now safe enough to be serviced by our transportation team. We would like to give a special thanks to Harrison County Road Supervisor, James McCarty and his team for this additional work to make bus routes safe for our students. We would also like to thank Mr. Robert Switzer and his team for getting the bus loops, parking lots, sidewalks and bus turnarounds in such good shape. A community working together, for our students, and our community’s future, is a wonderful sight to behold.
The heating system at Westside Elementary has been repaired and is now fully functional. Therefore, once again, ALL SCHOOLS in Harrison County will be on regular schedule tomorrow, Wednesday, February 9.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support!
Congratulations to our very own Mrs. Julie Lucky! KMEA Teacher of the Year!
Happy 100th day of school to all of our HC students!
URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT - WESTSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Yesterday, Westside Elementary School lost service of the heating system that provides heat to the entire school. Our maintenance technicians worked throughout the day to restore service. Service was restored prior to last night’s school announcement of a one-hour delay today for all Harrison County Schools.
Later last night the heating system failed again. After working late into the night, I was notified that it would not be able to be restored prior to the start of school today. Parts are needed which are not locally available and will need to be express shipped to repair the system and restore heating service. Therefore, due to multiple reasons including the lack of heat there will be no in-person learning at Westside Elementary School today, Tuesday, February 8. Students will have the opportunity to complete learning activities from home. Please watch for communications from Mr. Hoskins and/or your child’s teachers regarding these activities.
We apologize for this late notice but we did everything possible to have in-person learning at Westside this morning. Again, there will be no in-person learning at Westside Elementary School today, Tuesday, February 8. All other schools in Harrison County will be open and operating on a one-hour delay.
Thank you for your understanding. We will keep Westside families informed of our progress on restoring the heating system and the school schedule for tomorrow.
Last week we shared the names of our junior and senior high school All-State Choir students. Today we'd like to put a face to those names. Congratulations to all!

Due to continued ice pack on some roads and expected re-freeze on wet roads, Harrison County Schools will be operating on a 1 hour delay Tuesday, February 8. Unfortunately a few roads remain ice packed and we will not be able to safely run buses on these identified roads. We will not be running buses on Pugh’s Ferry, Hinton Webber, Martin, Spirito, Corinth-Hinton, & Mouth of Cedar past Judy Ridge. Families on these roads are encouraged to drop their children off at their school tomorrow if possible. Those who are unable to bring their students should contact their child's school by 9:00am for further guidance. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your support and assistance.
In addition to the roads mentioned above, bus turnarounds at Prince Lane, Cecil Webber, Magnolia Lane, and Withers Lane are inaccessible to our buses at this time. Therefore, we ask that any families living on those roads please bring your child to the end of the road to meet your regular bus.
As a reminder bus times due to the hour delay should be approximately one hour later than your normal bus time.
Thank you for your understanding and support during these difficult times.

This week is National School Counseling Week and Harrison County Schools is blessed with some of the best! If you see any of these women out and about this week, please let them know how much we appreciate them!
