For safety purposes after school activities that start immediately after the school day end will continue as normal. Activities that start after 4 of which you would return to the school to participate in will be canceled.
We have been notified by law enforcement of a community situation that has prompted the implementation of safety measures for students. The message indicates that, as of this afternoon, specific guidelines will be followed until further guidance is received from the local law enforcement. Here is a breakdown of the information:
Transportation: Busses will still be transporting students as normal but they will follow rerouted paths which could cause a delayed drop-off.
Walking Restriction: No Students will be allowed to walk, This is to ensure that students are kept within a controlled and secure environment. Parents of Middle School and High School walkers may pick up their student at the school or they will be released when the all clear is given.
The decision to implement these measures is based on prioritizing the safety of the student population in the community. It is important to follow the guidelines until further information or guidance is provided by local law enforcement. We will keep you informed.
The HCHS cheerleaders brought home a region title this weekend. It has been 7 years since they have won a region title. They are headed to compete for a State championship on December 8th, 2023!
Kelly Whalen organized the Host a Vet event for all 6th grade gold team students. On Friday they had the opportunity to video conference with two Ky Veterans & learned about their time during deployment. The Ky History Society made this event possible for all school districts across the commonwealth.

HCMS NEEDS YOUR INPUT!!! “Leader in Me” Parent Survey • One of the things we try and do at HCMS is actually “EXPLAIN” why we do things. Often times, we in education simply assume that parents know what we’re referring to and then we wind up wondering why we don’t get engaged/constructive feedback. Below you will find a general summary we ask you to consider taking. It is in regard to a new phased-in program for Harrison County Schools and it’s called “Leader in Me”. • First, what is “Leader in Me”? Some in the know have heard that Harrison County Schools are in the first phase of implementing “Leader in Me”. “Leader in Me” was originally/primarily applied in the business world and had its origins in the highly acclaimed book by noted author/speaker/businessman Steven Covey. His book, “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” was hugely successful and widely adapted to areas of personal growth and business leadership. Through the years it has greatly expanded and it is now has its principles (listed below) being implemented in a number of schools and school systems around the nation and world. In the school model, “Leader in Me” is an evidence-based, social-emotional learning process—developed in partnership with educators—that empowers students with the leadership and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. It is based on secular principles and practices of personal, interpersonal, and organizational effectiveness. • The 7 Habits: Be Proactive Begin with the End in Mind Put 1st Things First Think Win-Win Think First to Understand, Then to be Understood Synergize Sharpen the Saw • In an effort to build our students, our staff, AND our community we are asking for your input on this parent/guardian survey.
