A New Technology Resource for Teachers and Students

Over the next several months Harrison County will begin to implement a new technology resource for our teachers and students. We will be the first district in Kentucky to work with myvrspot.com to create a showcase of web based classroom instruction in our district. Not only will this showcase allow teachers to post online classroom instructional and/or informational video to their blog and/or showcase, the teacher media accounts will enable them to create electronic web based documents containing embedded video. These documents can be viewed on computers, ipads, phones, etc. from school or home. They can also be shared between teachers and will allow collaboration among departments to create a repository of documents that could be thought of and utilized as pages from an electronic textbook. Stay tuned as we begin to implement this great resource! Get a sneak peak of the showcase here and a blog with embedded video here!

Congratulations to Coach Whitaker!

After spending 37 years building the Harrison County baseball program into one of the most respected in the state, head coach Mac Whitaker added another honor to his baseball resume Monday night – his 1,000th career win.

The Thorobreds beat Mason County 11-1 in six innings on the Hilltop. The win brings Whitaker's career record to 1,000-295 – a 77.2 percent ratio.

Topping 1,000 wins alone is impressive, but Whitaker has made a career of impressive stats. With him at the helm, the Thorobreds have won 33 district championships, 21 regional titles and four state championships. The team has also been runner-up at the state tournament two times.

Monday's win makes Whitaker on the the third baseball coach in KHSAA history to earn 1,000 wins. Six more wins and he moves into the second spot.

After the game a small ceremony was held. Harrison County High School Principal Amy Coleman, along with Whitaker's daughters Camryn and Noelle, presented him with a framed jersey commemorating the milestone.

“I am just so proud to be a part of something like this,” Whitaker said. “I'm really proud our community and school system supports a program like this. It's an honor to be able to coach here”

Harrison County Cares...Community Forum!

We recently held a community forum, along with the University of KY, to discuss how we as a community can help our teens deal with issues they face in today's society. We thank all who attended and hope that the discussions and help for our teens will continue to grow! If you would like to view Dr. Omar's presentation, please click here!
