I would like to take this time to thank my "Southside" and "St. Edward" family for helping me through the past 2 weeks. Your many kind words, actions, and prayers helped my family in dealing with the sudden and tragic loss of my "dad". I am so fortunate to be surrounded by such caring people.
What Can You Do If You Suspect A Speech, Language, Or Hearing Problem?
A thorough evaluation by a speech-language pathologist or audiologist is needed to determine a person's communication strengths and weaknesses. After this evaluation, the speech-language pathologist or audiologist will be able to provide a plan for meeting individual needs.
What Is A Speech-Language Pathologist
A speech-language pathologist is a professional educated in the study of human communication, its development, and its disorders. by evaluating the speech and language skills of children and adults, the speech-language pathologist determines if communication problems exist and decides the best way to treat these problems.
What Is An Audiologist?
An audiologist is a professional educated in the study of normal and impaired hearing. The audiologist determines if a person has a hearing impairment, what type of impairment it is, and how the individual can make the best use of remaining hearing. If a person will benefit from using hearing aids or other listening devices, the audiologist can assist with the selection, fitting, and purchase of the most appropriate aids and with training the individual to use the aid effectively.
What happened to our nice hot days?? We did need the rain and I must admit, I did like the cool weather. Cool weather is great for football, soccer, and fall baseball!! Rainy weather is great for staying inside and reading a book –or better yet, practicing your speech sounds!! Which ever you do, I hope you do your best!!!
Next week, our schedule will change on Monday and Tuesday. Southside students will be taking the DIBEL's Next assessment to get a baseline measure on every students reading (or reading readiness- letter and sound recognition) ability. We will go back to our regular schedule on Wednesday. Our 2nd grade will be taking a field trip to Morehead State University on Friday.
Have a great weekend-
Pre-Schoolers Screened —-CHECK
Schedule Made————-CHECK
Therapy begins Monday 8:00 am—–CHECK!!!!!!!!!
It is hard to believe it is already Friday!! I have touched base with several of my speech students. It will take a few days to see everyone and check your speech. Next week I will finalize my schedule. Please be patient with me. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the speech pathologists will visit all schools and centers to screen the pre-schoolers and kindergarten students that did not come to the scheduled screening this summer. That will take quite a bit of our time. We will begin therapy in week 3.
It is time for a new year to begin. You have the opportunity to have the best year yet!!! I hope to see you come into the building with an "I can" attitude and ready to follow through with it. I have missed my "Speech Friends" so much this summer. I can't wait to see you!! I am so excited to see how much your "speech has grown" this summer.
