Valentine’s Day

Last week: Story was “The Quilt” We discussed memories and the concept of comparing and contrasting. In math we worked on word problems and measurement.
This week: Story: Life Cycle of a Pumpkin with concept of Fact and Opinion.
Spelling Words:Vowel Sound as in book: put, cook, stood, full, wood, July, shook, push, pull, brook, hook, hood, pudding, cushion, footprint.

Math: Word problems and money

Valentine’s Party: We will exchange valentines and have snacks on Tuesday, February 14th @1:30.

100th Day! Groundhog Day!

This week we’ve celebrated the 100th day and Groundhog Day.

Story for Monday -Wednesday was Mr. Wolf’s Chicken Stew.  Monday many activities were completed including making a 100 day crown that showed multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, writing 100 words, drawing/ writing about 100.

Tuesday we made and ate 100 pancakes!

Thursday we made a groundhog puppet and learned a Groundhog rhyme.

Spelling words were number words and a few words related to Groundhog day.  We did a followup writing to story, Substitute Groundhog.

Midterms went home on Thursday.

MLK celebrated

This past week we spent some time watching some video clips and discussing the life and causes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Our story for the week was "Rosa and Blanca"

Spelling words were long i sound words.

WORKING WITH MRS. MCILVAIN

Mrs. Crump and Mrs. McIlvain are switching classes for 30-50 min. four days a week.  Mrs. McIlvain is teaching the main concept for reading for the week, while Mrs. Crump is emphasizing a core concept in math.

Upcoming:

For the week of Jan. 23 the story will be "A Weed is a Flower"

The 100th day will be Jan. 30th if we don't miss any more days of school.  REMEMBER WE ARE IN SCHOOL THAT DAY!

Winter/ Weather

Holiday Traditions from Around the World

Last week we began our studies about traditions  & legends from around the world. We read "Legend of Poinsettia" and "Legend of the Christmas Tree"  We will continue this week with "Legend of Candy Cane" an "Legend of Christmas Stocking"

Spelling: Christmas words the students will generate as a class today.  I will try to post them by this afternoon. We will not test on these words until next Tuesday, Dec. 13th.

Story: "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and 3 different choral readings in small groups

Math: We have been working on  solving word problems. We will continue that and review place value along with math facts.

 The Science Geeks have provided us with some "Weather" information and we will incorporate that with our calendar that each day.

Friday: Dec. 9th "Tentatively scheduled is High school choir presentation.  It is also Junior Achievement Day

Monday: Dec. 12th -Discussion of Hannukkah (possibly make potato latkes.

Tuesday: Dec. 13th Spelling test, Math Common Assessment, Begin "Polar Express" unit

Wednesday: Dec. 14th Continue with "Polar Express Activities"

Thursday: Dec. 15th Christmas Breakfast Party- Wear PJs, Gift Exchange, Watch movie

Friday: Dec. 16th Sing Along, Brunch, 1/2 day dismiss 11:30.

Squanto And The First Thanksgiving

This week we will be focusing on the first Thanksgiving.

Groovin to the 70′s

Fall Festival is tomorrow night, November 12th 4-8p.m.

Come out, bring family & friends and enjoy a meal and some wholesome fun!

 This week our story was "A Turkey for Thanksgiving" and our grammar concept was possessive nouns. Our spelling concept was long a spelled with a, ai, & ay.   

Next week we will continue with the theme of Thanksgiving, looking at Native Americans & Pilgrims.

Halloween Party October 31st

 Fall Harvest was a big success!!

We had stations that included:

Pumpkin Carols,  Storytelling, Fun Games, Bats, Pumpkin Decorating,

Witch's Broom,  & Fall Harvest foods.  At each station, except

Games, books were read and activities completed to enhance

learning.

Monday, Oct. 31st. Legend of Sleepy Hollow- 2 versions compared and contrasted.  Party in the afternoon!!

We want to thank Lauren Kemper, Mrs. Crump's niece from Tennessee, for sharing her flute talent with us on Monday.  She also helped out in the classroom.

 Also, a big thanks to Mrs. Mickey Raymond for sharing her storytelling talent with us once a month.

Yankee Candle Assembly was Monday. Try to sell some over fall break.
