May 14-18 —

This week looks to be a very busy one at Northside! Our Drama Club has it’s debut performances of “Alice in Wonderland” on Thursday and Friday, and Field Day for everyone is during school on Friday! It should be a fun week for everyone.

Kindergarten-2nd Grade will use hyperlinks to navigate to my blog. They will then find appropriate sites for their grade level in the menu.

3rd Grade students will use Odosketch to create original drawings.

4th-5th Grade students will create animations in Kerpoof!

Testing Week… —

Testing week is here for 3rd-5th graders! I know the kids at Northside are working hard and doing their best every day. As far as the lab goes…

Kindergarten-1st Grade students are practicing using hyperlinks to navigate the internet.

2nd-3rd Grade students are learning about Prezis, and how they can be used by both students and teachers.

4th Graders are recording their own podcasts in Garageband.

5th Grade students are creating their wiki pages and adding clues to their Social Studies mystery character!

April 30-May 4 —

This week in computer lab…

Kindergarten students will review the meaning of history and hyperlink in an internet browser. They will also practice using these two tools, as well as the forward/back arrows to navigate the internet.

1st Grade students will review the “home row” on the keyboard. They will also practice using Dance Mat Typing to review keyboarding skills.

2nd and 3rd Grade students will practice uploading and editing a picture of themselves using Befunky.

4th Grade students will begin using Garage Band to record a podcast.

5th Grade students will create and begin editing a “Mystery Character” wiki page.


This week in Computers… —

This week, each class will learn about QR codes. These codes are a square pixelated image that you can find on many signs, adds, and publications. With a smartphone, IPad, or some other device with a scanning app, you can scan the code and get instant access to the site connected to the code.

Also going on this week…

Kindergarten and 1st Grade will find Kerpoof from my blog and create a card using the tools provided.

2nd Grade will create pictures using odosketch.

3rd Grade will learn how to add sound effects and ISight video to their IMovie.

4th Grade will practice using Picnik and other Google Tools.

5th Grade will learn about using Prezi. They will view recently created presentations and being creating their own.


April 16-20 —

We are entering the last 6 weeks of the school year!!! I have many fun and educational activities planned for the lab, so you won’t want to miss school for the rest of the school year! ;)

Kindergarten and 1st Graders will practice typing sentences correctly in Microsoft Word. 1st Graders will also practice logging into the internet using their classroom account.

2nd Grade students will view voki’s on my account. We will also brainstorm ways that Voki’s can be used in education.

3rd Graders will view some good IMovie examples, and begin creating their own using images that are provided.

4th and 5th Grade students will practice typing a URL into the address bar on their browser, then bookmarking the site in both the bookmarks menu and bar. They will then be able to create online drawings in odosketch.


Spring Break is almost here!!! —

This week, we will be using some fun Web 2.0 tools in the lab!!

Kindergarten and 1st Grade will use Kerpoof.com to practice spelling and creating pictures.

2nd and 3rd Grade will use Kerpoof.com to create comic strip animations.

4th and 5th Grade will use the National Gallery of Art Kids Art Zone to create collages, mosaics, and other art pieces.


Last Week of March… —

This week in the lab…

Kindergarten will practice navigating the internet and using a hyperlink. They will review math games at www.abcya.com.

1st Graders will also navigate the internet. They will learn to login to their classroom account.

2nd and 3rd Grade will practice creating an animation on www.abcya.com.

4th and 5th Grade will continue reviewing Revolutionary War facts on www.mission-us.org.


March 19-23… —

This week in the lab:

Kindergarten and 1st Grade will work on typing sentences correctly in Kidpix. They will focus on capitalization, spacing, and punctuation.

2nd and 3rd Grade will work on typing a complete paragraph focused on one topic in Microsoft Word. They will also review inserting clip art to correspond to their paragraph.

4th and 5th Grade will use the interactive site www.mission-us.org to review and learn American history facts.

Fun With IPad and Twitter… —

This week in the lab, we will start using Twitter. We will use it to “tweet” what we have learned in the computer lab that week. A student from each class will be selected to either dictate or type the “tweet” on my account. You can search @ccmkinney to see how each class can tell you what they learned in their own words.


March 5-9th… —

This week in the lab, we will be reviewing internet terms in all grade levels. We will also practice browsing the internet to specific sites, and discuss how each browser (Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, Google Crome) will give you the same information, just in a different format.
