February 6-10, 2011

February 6th, 2012

This week, the second graders have a spelling list with words that have -ou and -ow (we are working to remember that they say the sound “ow!”). Second graders are also reading “Frogs” this week in their reading books and learning about the life cycle of frogs.

First graders are reading “Mama’s Birthday Present” and their spelling list includes words with -ai and -ay.

Please remember that Valentine’s is next Tuesday and many homeroom classes may be having a Valentine exchange. Please see your student’s homeroom teacher for more details on their classroom activities.

Have a great week!

We’ve had a great month so far in the Resource Room! We’ve talked about snow and animals’ habits in the winter such as gathering food and hibernation. We’ve learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and what it means to have a dream and get along with others. This week, we are celebrating the 100th day of school! We are also having fun with the theme of Groundhog Day!

I look forward to having a great week! Remember that midterms come home later this week and if you have any questions you can reach me at kristin.harrington@harrison.kyschools.us or 859-234-7114

The book fair will be at our school this week and we hope that everyone is able to come to Literacy Night on Thursday, December 1st.  The evening will be filled with some great Christmas activities.

Remember that there will be no school on Monday, December 5th as it is a teacher work day.

Happy Halloween!  Most homerooms will be having their Halloween parties this afternoon. I hope everyone has a safe evening of trick or treating.

Also note that Saturday, November 5 will be the Fall Festival- make sure you come and support our school!

This week, we are going to be reading "Where the Wild Things Are" and talking about emotions and coping skills.  Next week, we will be having a classroom election in order to learn more about Election Day (please note that there is no school on November 8th due to Election Day).

We have a new addition to our staff here at Northside!  Mrs. Duckworth is a resource teacher that will be working at our school during the morning hours.  She will specifically be working with the 3rd graders (I will continue to work with them according to the afternoon schedule).  I am so excited to have her and know that she will enjoy working with the great group of 3rd grade students and they will in turn enjoy working with her.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 234-7114 or kristin.harrington@harrison.kyschools.us

May 16-20, 2011

May 16th, 2011

Students continue to test this week and are doing a great job!  Remember that tomorrow (Tuesday the 17th) there will be no school due to Election Day.  Kindergartners will be going to the zoo on Friday (May 20th) and we will wrap up testing at the beginning of next week!  This is such a busy time of year! I have been in and out of the classroom due to testing with the help of some great substitutes but if you have any questions at all just let me know.

Have a great week!

May 9-13, 2011

May 9th, 2011

Testing officially started today!  I know the students are excited to get started and all will do a great job!  As mentioned before, students in my room will have a substitute for the morning portion of our schedule while I help with the testing of the 3rd-5th graders.

Students will be working on telling time to the nearest 5 minutes.  The theme in our room this week is INSECTS!  We will discuss similarities and differences in various insects as well as what some insects have to do to protect themselves from predators (camouflage!).

There are many special activities and dates approaching as we get closer to the end of school.  Many grades have field trips so make sure you are getting any important papers, notes or messages from your students about what is going on in their homeroom.

Also- remember that there will be no school next Tuesday (May 17) due to Election Day.

Have a great week!

May 2-6, 2011

May 3rd, 2011

We've started off to a rainy week!  Last week, we finished discussing gardening and plants and planted cherry roses in the greenhouse.  We expect to see these begin to grow within the next 30 days so we are hoping that the students will be able to take them home by the end of the year!  This week, we are reading "Daniel's Dinosaurs" and doing some dinosaur related activities.  We are working on telling time and in language we are using comparing worder by adding an -er.

This week, we are getting ready for testing, which will begin next week for the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

Monday-students wear camouflage to camouflage their testing fears.

Tuesday-backwards day to remember to look back over the test

Wednesday-team day-wear your favorite "team" shirt to remember we are going to work as a team

Thursday-neon day-wear your brightest neon clothes to remember how "bright" we are

Friday-wear your tropical shirts and surfing shorts because we are going to "catch a wave to proficiency"

~Many grades will be having field trips soon so make sure to check with your student's home room teacher for any details

~Also note, that during testing our schedule will look quite different.  I will be testing students during the morning hours and during the afternoon, will resume with the usual resource room schedule.  I will be having a substitute in the resource room during the morning hours to make sure that all students' needs are met to the best of our ability when I am not available.  Please, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Have a great week!
