Here are the things we will be working on in each subject this week.
Reading – the sound ai (rain) and ay (hay);
Spelling – words that have the long a sound (as made by ai and ay)
Math – math facts: adding doubles plus one facts (Test over these on Friday, February 10);mentally subtracting and adding ten to any 2digit number;
Subtracting word problems; comparing numbers using base ten blocks
Writing – writing a topic sentence and a detail sentence. Writing a sentence correctly.
Grammar – recognizing suffixes and base words

Valentine’s Day
We will not be having a Valentine’s Day Party. However, we will exchange Valentine’s on Tuesday, February 14. A list of students’ names is in your child’s folder. We will be making bags to hold our Valentine’s in class.

Math – math facts: subtracting 2 from a number (test over these next Wednesday, January 25); continue to work on telling time to the half hour and using greater than. less than, and equal to signs to compare numbers (>, < , =)

Very Important
Please work with your child on the math facts every night. They should know them by sight and not have to count on their fingers to figure the facts out. The more you have your child practice them, the better they will get. This will help them when we start doing timed tests in the future. Remember we will have a test over these this Friday.

For the week of 12/12 – 12/16
Here are the things we will be working on in each subject this week.
This week we will be finishing up assessments, reviewing, and working on Christmas activities.
Homework – The only homework for this week and over Christmas Break, is for your child to continue to work on the sight word folder.
Party Information
Our Christmas party will be on Friday, December 16, 201l. It will begin at 9:30. At our party we will be doing a book exchange. Every student will need to bring in a wrapped book by Wednesday, December 14 (You may go on and send the books in if you want to). Please write From: and your child’s name somewhere on the wrapping. That way, the child that receives the gift will know whom to thank. Boys need to bring a book for a boy and girls will bring a book for a girl. Please spend between one to five dollars. If this is a problem for you, please let me know as soon as possible.

Reading – the sound of ee (week); long e at the end of a word (we, he, she); vowel , consonant, consonant, vowel rule (when you have a word that has a vccv as in tablet you split the word between the two consonants. Then, you sound out the first part of the word (tab) and then the second part of the word (let). Finally you blend them together (tablet).
Spelling - Long e words spelled ee (week) or e at the end (he)
