KPREP Testing……….this week May 7-11th

Posted on May 5th, 2012 by admin

Welcome students, parents & visitors,

This week will be our state testing week, therefore our class schedule will be altered. I will see my 8th graders on Mon & Wed, 7th grade 3rd period on Mon & Wed, 7th grade 5th period Tues & Thurs and 6th graders on Tues & Thurs. Each morning, Mon. through Friday all students will test. All students will go to 4th period everyday, which is their lunch period. The afternoon classes will be altered as mentioned above. Friday afternoon will be spent as a reward time for testing celebration with an organized field day.

During this testing week parents and students can help by making sure students get plenty of rest (go to bed kiddos……..at a decent time), eat a good energizing breakfast at home or at school when you arrive. Bring  sealed water bottle to school to help hydrate your brain during test (studies show that hydrating helps one to think better), be focused.

IN THE ART ROOM:

6th grade will be working on a printmaking activity this week.

7th grade will be learning about the Renaissance period of art history & their influence in two dimensional drawing.

8th grade will learn about the art movement known as Pop Art & will begin a Pop Art self portrait.

After the testing week we will only have one full week of class left. All of my students will take a final test on Tues., May 15th which will consist of 20 multiple choice questions & one OR.

Thanks for visiting today………..come back and see me again soon.

The week before testing……………………April 30-May 4th

Posted on April 27th, 2012 by admin

Welcome again Parents, Students and Visitors,

The year is winding down…………………..but, it is NOT over yet. We still have much to accomplish. So dust off those cobwebs and lets keep moving forward.

6th grade will continue with color theory this week and work on a painting in the style of artist Georgia O’Keeffe. They will mount the painting when finished so that it will be frameable.

7th grade will conitnue and finish their home models with their partner this week. They will finish constructing the exterior with ancient Greek/Roman influence and paint them. Students will critique thier own and other group works.

8th grade will continue to work on their wildlife or landscape paintings this week. They will mount these when finished and evaluate their own work.

TESTING WILL BE NEXT WEEK (April 7-11th). Our class schedule will be altered during that week so students will NOT have their explore classes everyday. They will instead meet every other day, so I will not see them as much during that week. Make sure your child is well rested, eats a great breakfast, is present (in mind and body) and puts forth his/her best effort during testing. We want to see what your child has learned all year long………….you can help out by encouraging  them to do their bes.

Well, once again, thanks again for stopping by…………………….please never hesitate to contact me if you feel there is a concern. Thanks and have a great week.

Mrs. Pulliam

Another week ahead……………………..

(Jerry Jenkins shares his talent of wood carving with the art club……click on the Art Club page to see more photos)

We will have two full weeks of classes until testing week. During testing week classes will not meet on a regular schedule. I have told students that they especially need to put forth effort in the upcoming and final days of the school year.

ALL CLASSES WILL LEARN ABOUT THE FOUR STEPS USED TO CRITIQUE ART THIS WEEK. They will put these steps into practice also.

6th grade will finish their origami projects on Monday. They are learning to fold a frog and a box. Some students brought their marbled paper book that they bound home on Fri. others will bring theirs home on Mon. On Tues. we will begin a unit on color theory. Students will practic mixing tempera colors creating a color wheel. After this practice students will begin a floral painting. They will study the art of Georgia O’Keeffe for inspiration.

7th grade students finished up the interiors of their model homes on Friday. They will take a break from building to view a video titled “A Roman City” to learn of the influence of ancient Greece & Rome on architecture. After the video is completed students will get back to their models to finish up the exterior.

8th grade students finished their mobiles on Friday. They look really nice. They will reflect upon that project in writing by evaluating their work. Students will also view a short video about artist, John James Audubon on Mon. They will next read about another early American artist named Thomas Cole. They will have questions to answer about this artist before they turn the assignment in on Wed. Their next project will be the choice of a landscape or an animal painting. They will start by using a grid to draw the image in proportion. They will work on this project for the remainder of the week.

Thansk for stopping by………….Mrs. Pulliam :)

It’s Hammer Time………….April 16th through 20th

Posted on April 15th, 2012 by admin

When we return this week to school we will be on the hammer side of the nine weeks. In other words……….no slacking aloud………….it’s hard work and all business. Mid term report cards will go home this week so students and parents will see where you are and what must be done to finish strong for the end of the school year 2011-12. Remember once it is gone……….it is gone. So do what your momma always told you (well mind did anyway) a job worth doing, is worth doing right!

Since we have had the last week off for Spring Break some of you may have forgotten what we were working on………..so I will remind you.

6th grade you will create your journal book from the paper you finished marbling before our break.

7th grade you will continue working with your partner on your model architectural project.

8th gade you will finish your mobiles this week.

Let’s go……………………………….see you on Monday, April 16th.    Mrs. Pulliam :)

Week Four of Nine 4/2-4/6/12

Posted on April 3rd, 2012 by admin

If you have recently stopped by and found that I hadn’t updated for the week I apologize. I got out of my routine of updating last Sun. therefore totally forgot……………

I do have plans for the week though…..of course.

ALL CLASSES: We are learning about Subject Matter in art this week in our bell ringers. (Representational Art: Portraits, Still Life & Landscape and Nonrepresentational Art: Abstract & non-objective)

All classes will have a mid-term test this Thursday. Studying the bell ringers is a good way to review for this test.

6th grade: we are marbling paper this week that will be used in a bound book project after Spring Break. Students are also using other media and processes in art that they are creating. These experiments will all be added to the students portfolio of works.

7th grade: we finished in the lab this past Mon. with the architecture program that we have been exploring. Now the students are working in teams of 2 to design and build a model of a house. They are using the same ideas from the computer program of creating a home for a client with specific needs. They will plan the home on paper with walls/ rooms then build the model from a shoebox using poster board for the walls. After Spring Break they will finish them up adding exterior features.

8th grade: students just began a mobile project this week using recycled CDs as the mobile source. They will continue to work on them this week and finish them after Spring Break.

Thanks for stopping by and remember next week is Spring Break………….so………..I’ll post again a little later for the week of April 16th- 20th.

See you later……………..HAPPY EASTER/ Celebrate the reason.

Students will visit the computer lab later in the week to work with a program where they will design a residence for a specified client. To get a head start students may want to practice with the website found under architecture to the left in the sidebar.

8th grade students will continue and finish their Chuck Close self portraits this week. They will also read about Native American portrait artist, George Catlin.

This will be an awesome week……..I just know it~!!!!!!

Hey there blog visitors,

HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY TODAY

I hope you checked out the QR codes I put in my last two post about extra credit. If you haven’t please do so. If your child doesn’t have a way to read the QR code, no fear. I will reveal the question in class so they have an equal chance to answer.

This week in the art room: All students will need to keep up with their daily bell ringer questions. They will turn these in this Friday, March 23rd and take their first of the 9 weeks quiz which will come from these bell ringers.

6th grade will begin a study of Asian Cultures in art. They will begin with a study of China and will begin a pottery project on Tues. Please make sure your student is present on that day if at all possible so s/he doesn’t miss out and get behind. The pottery project needs to dry several days before color can be added. Students will learn how the art of ceramics evolved in this culture. To learn even more about Chinese pottery/ceramics visit this website:  http://www.pacificasiamuseum.org/chineseceramics/splash.htm

7th gade will begin a study of ancient Egyptian culture and the influence their culture & religion played into the artworks they created. Students will create a self portrait tomb painting keeping in mind the rigid rules about how to draw the body and how hierogyliphics were important in how they communicated. Explore King Tut’s tomb by visiting this website:  http://www.pbs.org/wnet/pharaohs/digging.html

8th grade will learn about artist Chuck Close and his use of a grid to create enlarged portraits of family & friends. Students will learn to use a grid with some basic drawings and will then create their owns self portrait in the style of Chuck Close. Learn more about Chuck Close & see his works at this website:  http://www.chuckclose.coe.uh.edu/life/gallery.html

Please visit the embedded links for each grade level in the weeks description so that you as a parent/visitor will know what the students are learning in my classroom this week.

Thanks so much for visiting. Have a great day and week.
