May 15th, 2012This week we are returning to the Civil War and learning about life in prison camps. We are watching the movie Andersonville, the most famous of these camps and what Union prisoners had to go through.

This is testing week. Social Studies will be tested on Wednesday and Thursday. Please talk to your child about doing the best that they can do.
This week we are reviewing for the KPREP test next week. Our focus is on world history topics covered in 7th grade and concepts we learned this year in U.S. history.
We are starting our final unit of the year this week on the Civil War. This week we will be looking at the events leading to the Civil War and the first battles of the Civil War.
This week we are going to look at two of the Reform Movements that spread across the U.S. during the 1800′s. We will be learning about the Abolitionist Movement and the Early Women’s Rights Movement.
We are finishing up our unit on the westward movement and manifest destiny this week with the Texas Revolution and the U.S.-Mexican War. OUr next test will likely be this Friday.
We are continuing our unit on the westward movement of the U.S. and the idea of manifest destiny this week. The students will be writing a letter describing what life was like on the Oregon Trail.
We have started a new unit on the Westward Movement during the 1800′s. Our focus will be on the reasons for migrating west, the conditions faced along the Oregon Trail and how the U.S. gained all of the land that we have present-day.
We are continuing our unit on the Industrial Revolution with the focus on transportation improvements in the U.S. during the 1800′s. Later this week, we will be learning about basic economic concepts. Our next test will be later this week or early next week.
