With the end of the school year fast approaching, many students and parents are anxious to determine the calculations for figuring their final grade for a given course. I have included both the final grade calculator for 1/2 credit courses and the final grade calculator for full credit courses. With the inclusion of the semester exam and end of course assessments in the formula for the final grade, this is the easiest way to determine final averages. Any students with questions are encouraged to stop by my office.
Report cards for the 3rd nine weeks were sent home with students today.
Below, please find the response we received regarding questions about the Commonwealth Diploma. This response was sent by Robin Chandler, Policy Advisor for the Office of Next Generation Learning.
“This year is the last year students will be reimbursed for the Commonwealth Diploma. Next school year, students can earn the Commonwealth Diploma but no reimbursement will be available. Staff are currently working with stakeholders to formulate recommendations for the KBE related to the next generation of this type of recognition.
However, in the discussions that have gone on to date, there is no reason to believe that the taking of rigorous AP courses and performing well both in the course on the exam will be devalued in any way. Therefore, students should be encouraged to take the courses that will make them most college and/or career ready and know that the next generation of recognitions created will recognize a student’s success in a rigorous, college ready pathway. I don’t have any more details than that right now. The KBE agreed to extend the Commonwealth Diploma program through next year to give plenty of time to explore recognitions that would be meaningful to the student and post-secondary institutions as well.”
