PLAN & ACT Test Taking Strategies
1st- even though they may “know” the information, they are not used to taking timed assessments.
- Teachers, if you do not currently give any timed assessments in your classes, you may want to re-consider. The more they are exposed to this, the better they will be when taking the PLAN, ACT, SAT, etc.
2nd- most of our students do not finish a test, so they guess at the last several questions. This is NOT best practice, at least in Math & Science!
- Here is the strategy they should be using, but not many seem to know this:
- They should go through the test 3 times:
- 1st Time- quickly read each question and ONLY answer those you know immediately
- 2nd Time- go back to the questions you know you can do but will take you more time
- 3rd Time- you should only have questions left that you are unsure of or definitely don’t know. If you are going to have to guess, THESE ARE THE ONES WORTH GUESSING ON!
