There are 2 new scholarships open to all seniors, see Ms. Judy for details
The application deadline for the Kearns and Batson scholarship has been extended to May 7, 2012.
Seniors:
1. New scholarship packets are available, stop by Ms, Judy’s office for updated information
2. The Power of Life and Kitchen-Challis applications are now available.
3. There have been changed to the Kim Niman and King Barton process and application, see Ms. Judy for new information.
Today in homeroom, seniors received Senior Superlative Ballots, Senior Baby Picture information for the yearbook, and information for the Senior Directory portion of the yearbook. I am also placing those forms on my blog.
Every junior has been given a Getting In Book in their US History class. It is published by Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. The book contains information regarding scholarships, grants, financial aid, majors and the colleges in Kentucky that offer that major, every higher education institution in Kentucky along with cost, application/admission information, contacts, etc….
This year is the last year students will be reimbursed for the Commonwealth Diploma. Next school year, students can earn the Commonwealth Diploma but no reimbursement will be available. Staff are currently working with stakeholders to formulate recommendations for the KBE related to the next generation of this type of recognition.
However, in the discussions that have gone on to date, there is no reason to believe that the taking of rigorous AP courses and performing well both in the course on the exam will be devalued in any way. Therefore, students should be encouraged to take the courses that will make them most college and/or career ready and know that the next generation of recognitions created will recognize a student’s success in a rigorous, college ready pathway. I don’t have any more details than that right now. The KBE agreed to extend the Commonwealth Diploma program through next year to give plenty of time to explore recognitions that would be meaningful to the student and post-secondary institutions as well.
The end of the Third Nine Weeks is March 9, 2012.
