Have a Happy Holiday!

December 15th, 2011

We had a wonderful day today enjoying the holiday season. In honor of The Polar Express we all wore our pajamas to school. First thing this morning we enjoyed hot chocolate and snacks with all of the school as we listened to Ms. Maggard read The Polar Express. After listening to the story we enjoyed singing along with Mrs. Wilson to some of our favorite holiday songs.

Later in the morning we spent quite a bit of time crafting ornaments to be given away to special people. We had a great time making these ornaments and really enjoyed and appreciated the help we received from the parent volunteers in our classroom.

After our crafting session we had a great meal thanks to our parents, we completed a book exchange, and we had a wonderful sing along with George Molton. What a way to kick off the holiday season!

A Thankful Week!

November 27th, 2011

Ms. Caudill's class was thankful to spend Monday and Tuesday with Mrs. Whitson's class completing activities relating to the early settlers and the Native Americans. We had a great time and learned a lot about our early history and the many things for which we are thankful.

Drawing Conclusions…

March 29th, 2011

On March 17th, we returned to our classroom from lunch to find a trail of overturned furniture, gold dust, and a number of misplaced items which lead us to an open window. In the window we found a wee little hat and a crumpled piece of white piece of paper!

We figured out, based on our clues, that the Leprechaun must have been in our room! We must have returned just in time to catch him in the act! He was in such a hurry to get away that he dropped his hat and what what we determined to be the map to his gold! We added a little water color paint, and, lo and behold, we had a map to his gold and treasure!

We followed that map all over the playground, behind the little playground, around the slide, past the benches, past the swings, and down to the outdoor stage. There it was…the Leprechaun's treasure! We divided by sharing and came away with a fair amount of treasure! THANK YOU, LEPRECHAUN!

100 Days of Fun and Learning!

February 20th, 2011

The 100th Day was a day packed with fun and learning! We built 100 block buildings.

We put together 100 piece puzzles.

We sorted cereal and used it to make 100 piece necklaces.

We made 100 piece paper chains, imagined and wrote about what we would like to eat 100 of, counted to 100 by 5's, 10's, and 1's, and learned about the 100's column! We had fun and learned a lot!

Holiday Fun…Pre-Snow : )

January 12th, 2011

Before we experienced our early winter weather our classroom had a wonderful day of fun! One of wonderful activities included a visit from one of Santa's elves who delivered letters from the "Big Man" himself!

After Santa visited we had a tasting party as part of our study of the celebration of Hanukkah. We have learned that feasting is a part of many celebrations that we have learned about. We tasted Latkes (fried potato pancakes) with applesauce and sour cream, chocolate gelt, and cookies.

After our tasting we practiced gift giving! We opened our gifts from Mrs. Alyssa and Ms. Caudill. We have learned about several celebrations and recognized that in each gift giving is an important component. We had a great day!

Snow Woes!

We began our Unit 5 Week 3 word list this week. Please continue with those words and assignments regardless of snow days missed. We will move on to Unit 6 next week, the week of January 17th, regardless of the number of days missed. If you have questions, please contact me! Smile Our focus sounds this week are to review short /o/ and the consonant /f/.

The Feast!

November 29th, 2010

On Tuesday we feasted with Mrs. Mattox's, Mrs. Dietrich's, and Mrs. Levi's kindergarten classes. Our class was dressed up in its Pilgrim attire.

Oh, What a Thanksgiving!

November 29th, 2010

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving feast on Tuesday, November 23rd! On Monday we prepared the food and participated in several activities to help us understand the life of the settlers. We broke beans, made cornbread, made Native American Pemmican, dipped candles, and churned butter.

Thanks to Our Fabulous JA Friends!

November 9th, 2010

Thanks to our JA friends who came to our class from the high school. They read stories to us and helped us complete many fun activities. We enjoyed having them in our classroom! They even joined us for milk break!

A Wonderfully SPOOOOKY Day!

October 30th, 2010

Today was a great day in kindergarten! We made our first trip across the street to meet our friends at Cedar Ridge. We went trick or treating on the memory care hall and in the health care facility. We will begin visiting our friends once a month now.

After visiting Cedar Ridge Health Campus to begin our Halloween fun we returned to school to a fabulous party prepared by our parents! We feasted on "brains and worms", cupcakes, spiderweb cookies, and all kinds of other scary treats. There were treat bags galore. We were well prepared for a ghoulish Halloween weekend!
