Northside is a K-5 school
located north of Cynthiana on US HWY 27. We have approximately 325
students enrolled in our school.
Northside Elementary School was
established in 1964 when the Harrison County and City of Cynthiana elementary
schools consolidated. Students from the schools of Berry, Sunrise, Oddville,
Marshall, Renaker, and Banneker made up Northside's first student body.
Mr. Theodore Renaker was the
first principal. Following him, Mr. Ted Sullivan became principal in 1978. After
serving 17 years, he retired, and Mr. David Case took over in 1995. Mr. Sam
Cowan served as principal for two years, and Mrs. Sharon Hill, the current
principal, has been at Northside since July 2003.
Northside Elementary is proud of
its strong curriculum, dedicated faculty, parent involvement, and academic
successes. Northside was in reward status from 1992 to 2002, when rewards were
given to high achieving schools.
We also take pride in having
good attendance. For the 2007-2008 school year, we had the best attendance in
the school district. We even had "Perfect Attendance" on May 15th, 2008.
On the 2009-2010 CATS, our 3rd, 4th,
grade students scored 102 in their overall academic index. This makes
Northside the first school in the district to join the "Century Club", reaching
a score of 100, which is considered proficient in the areas tested. We are
proud of all of those students and teachers who have worked very hard on this
