Youth Day is
a Harrison County Tradition dating back to the 1950's. Lions
Club sponsors a day for students to shadow elected officials
and public servants (mayor, commission, jailer, sheriff,
coroner, police/fire chief, state rep, clerks...there are
many) to promote civic awareness and responsibility. Students
campaign and run for office to serve with these officials.
They go on a field trip consisting of job shadowing, luncheon
and guest speaker and attending
a mock city commission meeting downtown.
For our students, this event is lots of fun, and an extremely
valuable opportunity for our students.
